Cybercriminals Claim Breach of Security Firm Accenture

Data Breach - Modern Tech Updates

A week ago cybercriminals announced that they possess private data of over thirty thousand employees of multinational IT company Accenture and started selling the data.

On June 19th, a threat actor advertised a database containing details of millions of people on a hacking forum. As stated, the said set of data is claimed to be sourced from Accenture, a US-based multinational IT solutions and consulting firm.

Its alleged customer database includes the personal data of 32,826 users, including active and former employees. As it is stated, currently, the company is estimated to have about 742,000 employees across the globe.

The data leaked by the hacker team consisted of emails, names, and broadcast dates. It is also possible that the dataset may be related to an internal tool known as Media Exchange that supports rich videoconferencing.

The person or people who defend the dataset listing say that the firm lost data in June to hackers. The author could not substantiate this at the time of writing for Cybernews. Unfortunately, Accenture’s response has not been submitted yet.

Should the leakage be proven true, it would not be the first time this IT giant is under the attack of threat actors. It was only in 2021, that the company revealed that Lockbit ransomware gang hackers had stolen data from its networks.

These services encompass the company offering a broad range of IT services to numerous sectors, including energy, healthcare, aerospace, and defense.

According to the Gartner Market Share Report Accenture was the market leader in MARS in 2023 and was the fastest-growing of the three dominant providers in all segments for revenue.

Currently, they work with Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.

In the same month, the same threat actor published a dataset he claimed to be from 80000 clients of Shell. At the time, Shell said the same to Cybernews, stating that the data in question was released by a vendor who offered Shell globally anonymous mystery shopping services.

The same threat actor mentioned the inclusion of employee data from Heineken, a multinational beer company. Up to the time of this writing, Heineken has not responded to whether or not the accusations are true.
